Sunlight streaming in the eastern window. The fan on top of the refrigerator is running (79F/26C, 7AM), reminding me of the small metallic fan in the house I grew up in. You remember things like that sometimes. This morning I read the Sunday interview on Magnapoets, checked the comments on slog2live (Broken Branch was yesterday's excitement), got my tea and oatmeal, created a new blog that is going to be about learning html better (I think), and realized again that there are many clever and accomplished people in the world (thank to Google).

Took today off...sitting out in the backyard, enjoying a mosquito-free evening. Good recovery day from interview day yesterday. Put new strings on the violin, talked with N (she did a ton of cleaning this morning - needed and very welcome). CA is out learning to sail this evening. R doing some reading and off this weekend with a friend's family (at their cabin). P spending most of the time outside - beautiful day -I can hear the frogs 'singing' over in the pond. And now my neighbor is singing on his porch! Oh well...it sounds ok. CL taught at the middle school today. I'm doing some reading about research areas that I think I will likely need to know about.

Got to love being able to sit back in a comfortable chair out on the back deck on this clear evening, catching up on a few notes.

Days go by - I should put something here every day.
Work scene looking hopeful. More on this later.
Managed to get N's large stuffed chair put into storage
CA & R in home stretch of homework.
P wants a pocketknife - like his friends have - to carve sticks to a point. Sounds pretty normal.
CL teaching, spending time helping people.
Pretty normal stuff.

Faint blue haze from a backyard campfire hangs in the trees.

Lots of weeding, a little mowing.

CA done with lifeguard training.

N moved in, some time for chats, working.

R with friend S at a movie...

P had a buddy over yesterday, they played all day, a lot by the lake.

CL doing some gardening when she can...

Not a lot of news...but that's ok.

Late post...

more interviews, going reasonably well (I think)

N helping us think through organizing the house, starting with a focus on getting rid of things that need to go...

CA hanging in there, some difficult exams and project work still ahead - she works so hard at this, I am staggered at some of the details that she needs to remember.

R doing an overnighter after a bonfire this evening.

P hanging out at a friend's house late this evening (where is he?)

CL snoozing by now.

It was a good day. Took some time off this afternoon and went after some of the 'creeping charlie' that flourishes in the yard.

Friday - bit rainy but that's ok. Lots of greenery.

Work update - 'networking', ramping up some studying (patent law), keeping in touch with co-worker's progress. Unusual time, but plenty to do.

C.L. pretty involved with helping somebody with citizenship/travel issues, lots of last minute details but seems to be coming together.

C.A. went to college fair event, came back with info on ivy league schools, and excited.

R got in some mall time last evening :)

P blogging as you may have seen in 'Clear Blue Sky'

Should be seeing N around here soon...

Talked to G & T in CO last night - beautiful there & busy with painting.

Here, not much new. Just got news that a friend fell off a bike and is on the way to ER for possible collar bone injuty. He also is planning major travel coming up, so this will make things interesting.

C.L. getting time to teach, variety of grades & topics. P. had piano tonight, excited about getting near the end of one of his books. C.A. had a 'behind-the-wheel' class today, parking practice, she is doing well with that. R. was doing a few study questions on the other PC a little while ago. And me, a day at work, some data crunching today along with looking at various options, conversations, reading & studying. And a bit of time to write here.

Thunder booming off in the distance.

Special Announcement

Announcing a new blog: Clear Blue Sky (link over on sidebar)

20060506

This business of retooling in mid-career is a mix of being exciting, overwhelming, mind-numbing, humbling, and interesting. I'm surely going about it inefficiently, but believe it can be done, although the path is not so clear.

Picked up N. to take her to work yesterday, also brought the oversized pink 'bean bag' from her dorm room. It's close to the end of spring term and she'll be back some time next week. We spent some time talking about investing, which she has some interest in (so to speak).

C.A. off for an overnighter last night, back today, a birthday party later for one of her friends.

R. active with friends, movie last night.

P. very happy with his new lacrosse stick, playing around outside last evening and this sunny day.

C.L. and I do quite a bit of taxi duty. Need to sell/donate the older van although it is still useful for 'hauling.'

Trying to keep at the poetry from time to time, as the inspiration hits.

As I said, sunny day, can hear a few birds. Take care.

Back. A beautiful day between several of clouds and rain. No major changes lately. N. made it back from MO just fine. C.A. off swimming, R. not so well this morning but better by afternoon, P. his bubbly self and ready for recital. C. L. answering e-mails tonight - we had company last night, fellow from Sudan who used to live in MN but now AZ. He was well, got a chance to canoe and socialize. Other than that...pretty quiet. Which is really quite ok.
