Surprisingly nice day. Couple of work parties based on Halloween, ended up winning a couple of contests and probably ate too much. Time to get the last stuff out of the garage to make room for the car, as the winter parking rules go into effect tonight. Will go out walking with my son for annual trick-or-treat, then help others with homework and college applications. Busy, but glad to be able to do it.

Nearly 7 AM and still quiet dark. One of the projects over the weekend has been to solve the Rubik's cube puzzle, my son and I have been going through websites that show how and now he is actually pretty quick, at least by my standard, since I still get stuck, while he is able to hold up the solved cube and beam proudly.

I'll get it though :)

Drove to see my dad in hospital yesterday. Not a lot of change there. Stayed up helping with homework. Trying to help now, but we're all a bit too tired. For which, an obvious solution.

Friday evenings are good for being quiet and still for a while, recovering from the daylong push.

Feels like two days sometimes. Comes from not saying 'no' enough, plus the things that simply have to get done. Like writing a short note here. Well, not really like that. I like writing, especially because I know that others, somewhere, with very different lives, stop by, or at least slow down long enough to wave. Takes the edge off.

My dad is at least not getting worse. Probably going to be a challenging path though.

Pretty late, time to rest. Good to have a place to rest.

Still quite warm and humid. Pretty much laid low today, bit of reading (Boomsday by Christopher Buckley), some plunking on the violin in preparation for a practice tomorrow evening. I agreed to play at a wedding along with a guitarist, and we need to adapt several pieces.

Sounds like dad had less coughing today, more verbalizing. He's had a pretty solid blow to the head, and it's too soon to know what the recovery is going to look like. Fortunately there are several family members around so we've been able to take turns a bit on being there along with mom. There's also a broken arm bone and broken wrist, the arm gets some surgery tomorrow to install a plate.

Had a good nap earlier, took a swipe at the work inbox, and finished off the dishes. Nice to have a place to put a note and I do appreciate the visits.

A mostly medical day. Time in the ICU with dad, who is not responding very much after a bad fall. But there is still definitely someone there, and excellent care.

It's a good hour and a half drive, and I was thankful my daughter C. could drive on the way home.

So, kind of a sober time.

The weather is quite strange, warm (88F today) and humid. Pretty widespread, sounds like.

A moth got in the house, fluttering about the lights.

Music tonight, about 3 hours and some of it learning new songs live. Can do that when the place is informal and has kind of an artist's workshop focus. So that was nice but it's a bit of a drive, and after a (small) dish of ice cream I'm quite ready to go off and sleep for at least 8 hours if possible.

The past few weeks have been a bit more filled with cares than usual, of the aging parents variety, and much less writing. But it's good to come back.

That said, I am going to go and get some rest.

Supposed to be quite warm tomorrow, unusual for October.
