20070629

Guess it's about half way through 2007. Time for mid-year resolutions. Here we go.

Walk > 12,000 steps per day.
Lose weight @ 5 pounds a month (less ice cream, I guess)
Starting in September, teach beginning French to a group of 15 people.
Practice violin > 30 min. a day

Oh, that's enough.

Studying lots for patent exam. Systematic-like, keeping a chart. Read a chapter, do the practice test questions, view the video to review. Twenty-seven chapters. The keep doing the test questions for a while, and take the exam. The good thing here is I don't have to go to classes. But it does take study time.

Right, going out for an evening walk, it's beautiful weather and I can hear a few birds, dogs, and leaves in the breeze.

20070623

Bit worn lately.

Nice dinner with family last night, italian food served on largish plates where everyone helps themselves to portions, including tiramisu at the end. Very nice, it was a celebration of the hard work everyone had done in school or jobs or both. One of the topics someone proposed was to tell some unusual thing they had learned during the past year that they hadn't told anyone about yet. One of the stories including something about a relic related somehow to Mother Theresa which was/is being kept at the home of someone nearby who is writing a book about her. It's a secret though. Sort of.

It's a lovely cool day and there is probably half a ton of yard work to do.

Bought a pedometer yesterday, a little gadget that clips on the belt and counts how many steps have been taken. Kind of silly, and I did put a piece of black plastic tape over the brand name to make it a little less obvious. But I sit around too much and want to be more active, and I figure a good way to do that is by somehow measuring how much I walk. Here it is 2:25 PM and the count is 9589 steps. Walked to the library and picked up a book of poems (Garrision Keillor's collection of "Good Poems for Hard Times"), went on the shady wooded path that runs through our town. It's quite warm today, around 90 F (30 C), so the shade was a good idea, as well as a cap.

The idea is to walk at last around 10K steps a day, or 12K for good measure. Usually I get excited about these things for about three weeks and then it stops, because of some new thought to chase. Last year it was yoga, intensely so because of an introductory offer to go as often as you like during the first month. It felt pretty good, but got sort of expensive later on and so it got eliminated. So, got to do something to keep fit.

Having spent the past hour reading blogs that I like to keep up with, it's time to move along...or take a mid-afternoon nap...
